Daspletosaurus torosus

A fairly large Tyrannosaur, about 9 meters (30 ft) in length, Daspletosaurus was a robust cousin and contemporary to Gorgosaurus libratus.  It is believed that the two may have had different niches, with the former preferring to prey on ankylosaurs and ceratopsians, while the latter may have preyed more frequently on ornithopods  (but both were probably still opportunistic).  It has been suggested that Daspletosaurus may have been ancestral to Tyrannosaurus, but this is debated.  When discovered, it was originally believed to be a specimen of Gorgosaurus.  It had the longest limbs of any Tyrannosaurid, but that's not saying much.  It lived during the Late Cretaceous from 77-74 mya, in Canada.
