Harpactognathus gentryii

A rather large and robust Rhamphorhynchid, Harpactognathus is believed to have grown a wingspan of up to 2.5 meters (8 feet) in length. With it's large size, robust jaws, and large, spike-like teeth, Harpactognathus may have had a diet that consisted of mammals, smaller reptiles, small dinosaurs, and perhaps even other smaller pterosaurs.  It was closely related to Scaphognathus, and is rather unique among pterosaurs for a crest which ran the length of the skull all the way to the tip of the jaws.  Remains of the animal have been uncovered in the Morrison Formation of the U.S, dated to the Kimmeridgian epoch of the Late Jurassic.
