Homotherium serum

One of the latest surviving species of Homotherium.  This animal lived during the Late Pleistocene in North America.  It is possible that it was a pack hunting animal, working together to take on larger, tougher prey such as young mammoths, large deer, and bovids.  It lived alongside the more abundant Smilodon fatalis, but Homotherium seems to have been adapted better for running, with longer legs and reduced claws, hinting at a different niche than it's more robust cousin.
